The two companies will work together to architect a Microsoft Azure-centric 5G hybrid network to empower consumer, enterprise, government and IoT users with ubiquitous mobile connectivity.
Omnispace will collaborate with Microsoft to architect, develop and demonstrate an Azure-enabled 5G NTN network to enhance the performance and reach of mobile wireless networks. The global hybrid network will integrate terrestrial and satellite networks into one seamless communications experience. It will leverage Azure Orbital, Microsoft’s Ground-Station-as-a-Service offering with Microsoft’s Azure Operator 5G Core to route voice and data traffic direct from mobile devices via an Omnispace proliferated low-earth orbit (LEO) constellation.
The Omnispace global non-geostationary satellite orbit (NGSO) space network will utilize the company’s 2 GHz mobile satellite spectrum allocation and operate in the 3GPP band n256. As the world’s first 3GPP-compliant 5G NTN network, it will deliver the power of 5G directly to billions of devices everywhere, enabling people and assets to communicate in real-time through a single, seamless global service. Through integration with Omnispace network, mobile network operators will be able to cost effectively enhance and expand their service area(s), while improving resiliency, enabled by Azure services.

Omnispace Spark-1TM Now On Orbit as Part of Omnispace’s Initiative to Deliver Global Hybrid NTN Connectivity
Tysons, Va., USA, and Toulouse, France – April 1, 2022 – Omnispace and Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), are proud to announce that Omnispace Spark-1TM was successfully delivered into orbit aboard the SpaceX Transporter-4. The Omnispace SparkTM program represents phase one in the development and delivery of the world’s first standards-based global hybrid network.
Thales Alenia Space designed and built the satellite, part of the initial two-satellite Omnispace Spark program. The new-generation NGSO satellite in low-earth orbit (LEO) will operate in the 2 GHz S-band. Omnispace Spark will support the mobile industry 3GPP standard* in band n256, making connectivity possible direct to compatible devices. This program will serve to advance the development and implementation of Omnispace’s global hybrid non-terrestrial (NTN) network.

Spark-1 was delivered into orbit aboard a SpaceX Transporter. Exolaunch provided launch, mission management, integration and deployment services.

The collaboration will enable the commercial launch of a first-of-its-kind, global, open standards-based IoT network. The service will employ the LoRaWAN® protocol to support direct-to-satellite communications for a broad range of IoT devices. The protocol will utilize the LR-FHSS technology — specifically designed for high-capacity IoT networks — with on-orbit operation validated by Lacuna through several years of non-geostationary satellite testing and optimization. Companies demonstrate the ability for S-band non-geostationary (NGSO) satellites to provide voice and data communications directly to existing warfighter mobile devices
TYSONS, VA. – September 2, 2021 – Omnispace and Vulcan Wireless Inc. today announced successful voice and data communication between its NGSO on-orbit satellite and a widely fielded model of mobile tactical military communications radios (PRC-117G). Omnispace is seamlessly uniting mobile and satellite to create the world’s only truly global 5G mobile network.
As part of Omnispace’s Phase II Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) contract, the demonstration was in cooperation with U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command. The contract was awarded as part of the U.S. Airforce’s “Space Pitch Day,” enabling Omnispace to bring next-generation narrowband capabilities to the warfighter.
The Omnispace next-generation global 5G network is being architected to support “dual-use,” mission-critical enterprise and secure government applications. Unlike legacy commercial and government networks, Omnispace’s global system is being designed in line with 3GPP 5G NTN standards, which will enable interoperability for any compatible 5G commercial or government device.

The demonstrations with Vulcan Wireless were focused on connecting existing military hardware to satellites in commercial frequency bands and orbits, not traditionally used by government, to increase the resiliency of battlefield communications.

5G satellite hybrid connectivity would bolster terrestrial mobility

AND TYSONS VA., Mar. 23, 2021 – Omnispace, LLC and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), have entered into a strategic interest agreement to explore jointly developing 5G capability from space. The proposed global 5G standards-based non-terrestrial network (NTN) would offer commercial, enterprise and government devices ubiquitous communications worldwide. This type of network has the potential to redefine mobile communications, benefiting users requiring true mobility, regardless of environment or location.
Omnispace’s vision is ‘one global network ’ that will combine the reach of a non-geostationary orbit satellite constellation with the capacity of the world’s leading mobile wireless carrier networks. This 5G NTN will leverage the company’s priority 2 GHz S-band spectrum rights and employ 3GPP standards to enable direct-to-device connectivity and interoperability. Company is Developing Commercial 5G NTN Connectivity Solutions that Government & Military Users Can Leverage
TYSONS, VA. – March 15, 2021 – Omnispace, the company that is redefining mobile communications by building a global hybrid network, today announced the successful demonstration of 5G satellite capability with the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN), along with the Navy and Marine Corps. Omnispace was selected by NSIN in 2020 to pilot its technology in connection with Verizon’s new 5G “Living Lab.”
Last week, Omnispace successfully tested an initial 5G-via-satellite capability in a LinQuest lab demonstration for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. A number of commercial-off-the-shelf 5G devices successfully communicated voice and data services via an emulated 5G radio access network (RAN), to Omnispace’s on-orbit satellite, leveraging LinQuest Corporation’s lab facility in Northern Virginia.

Omnispace is continuing the development of a global hybrid 5G communications network based on 3GPP standards, which will the ensure security and interoperability of devices all over the world for a wide array of enterprise and government customers.
The company plans to make its direct-to-satellite 5G NTN connectivity solutions available through its ‘one global network,’ which will utilize the company’s existing 2 GHz priority spectrum rights. Initial elements of the Omnispace network will enter into service in 2022.

Company Bolsters Market Access and 5G Space Technological Development with $60 Million in New Funding
TYSONS, VA. – February 2, 2021 – Omnispace, the company that is reinventing mobile communications by building a global hybrid network, announced today that it closed on a round of $60 million in equity financing that advances its development of its 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) and expands its 2 GHz spectrum footprint in key markets globally. The Omnispace network will power critical global communications, including 5G and mobile Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, directly from its satellites in space to mobile devices around the world.
Led by new investor Fortress Investment Group, the latest round includes funding from existing investors Columbia Capital, Greenspring Associates, TDF Ventures and Telcom Ventures.
This funding enables the company to build upon the investments it has already made to validate 3GPP standards-based 5G products and technologies, and demonstrate 5G connectivity from space. The financing also paves the way for Omnispace to accelerate market access initiatives to secure 2 GHz mobile satellite service (MSS) and complementary ground component (CGC) spectrum globally, which will anchor its next-generation hybrid mobile system. Together these efforts provide the foundation for commercial partnerships with mobile network operators, who enable the terrestrial component of the hybrid network, and wireless technology and device manufacturers.
